Looking through my fellow students blogs was always interesting. I liked reading what people had to say. I really like the post about playing frisbee in the 'write whatever you want category.' I liked some peoples brutal honesty when they did not like something they learned or when they worked with something they did not understand or want to use. The opinions were fun to read. I would have to say my favorite part was when people could link to sites they found useful, as far as web resources. I clicked on some and also found them useful for me, which was why I liked this part the best. Seeing all the different sites and thoughts is a great exposure, and made great use of the blog posting.

I do not have a specific skill in mind that I would like to acquire. I would just like to become more computer literate as far as mobilization. I would like to be able to use shortcuts with proficiency and be faster with what I do. The main thing I would like to work on is learning how to embed items into different forms whether on line or on a power point. I would like to know which software is appropriate online and be able to tell. I just would like to become more knowledgeable about computers in general and be able to maneuver it with ease, being able to help others as well. Being a teacher in a continuing technology advanced classrooms makes me want to become more proficient so my students are not 'showing me up.'

Ways to achieve future educational technology goals will most likely consist of asking someone. I have a lot of tech-savy friends who always offer to help. I just would like to be able ot fix problems myself without needing help. I might look into taking classes in the future, or continuing to fine tune my skills. When i reach my teaching career I will definitely have to make sure my technology skills are at the peak so I will most likely attend more classes to keep up with the new advances. Keeping up with new technology will help me attain future technology goals. In these times, it seems as though I would have to attend a class everyday, but staying on top of new ideas is my goal.

Overall, to be honest this semester I have not really used twitter. I will say I learned plenty more about it, seeing as I had no idea of it before. I see the uses but I am not particularly a fan of it. I understand how to get on there. I learned how to follow people, watched people follow me. I made up a status and followed channing tatum. I also used twitter to connect to the store subway to get secret codes to enter to win. I also looked a few times at posts for the class. My experience with twitter is not much, but enough to understand the concrete nature of it.

Honestly, after this class my twitter will sit idol as it has been lately. I think twitter more as an easy stalking tool. It allows people to constantly update the world on what they are doing. Facebook and myspace have statuses but they have other things, and not everyone constantly changes their status. On twitter it all seems to be about updating your followers on what you are up to and honestly I think it is pointless in that nature. I could care less what people are doing every hour. So i'm not planning on using it in other contexts. The only exception would be like the one mentioned above, in a matter of a sweepstakes or something I would consider it.

I do not think of twitter as a useful educational tool, or a tool at all. I feel as though if it was used in school it should only be in upper high school with students well accustomed to the computer and those who should know how to use the computer properly and safely. Twitter can open up the users to a lot of the real world, which is not necessarily the best. Twitter can be an easy way for a teacher to communicate, but then again so is the phone or email. I think twitter is not worth the risk. I think it could be fun to use for a scavenger hunt or to follow your favorite celebrities but not as a teaching tool.

Web 2.0 technologies exist in many different forms. We have learned about some basic ones such as wiki spaces. Many more exist and can become useful in any technologically advanced classroom. There are so many web 2.0 technologies that would be useful to me. I plan to teach elementary school so using simple technologies would be the easiest. Children in elementary school need more hands on activities so the least difficult to understand web 2.0 technology would be most helpful.

The web 2.0 tool I would love to make use of in my class is create-a-graph. Create-a-graph is a tool used to do just that- create graphs. The create-a-graph is a kid friendly tool that helps kids get started in understanding graphs. The website, Create-A-Graph, leaves the kids in charge of all the decisions such as color, font, size, the information displayed, how the information is displayed and even allows students to print off their final result. The create-a-graph website would be the best for me to make use of as an elementary school teacher and would help my students in math when the begin to use graphs. Upper elementary school grades will make the most use of these graphs.

Web 2.0 technologies have made big strides in education and helping students learn. The best part of web 2.0 technologies is that they can accessed from anywhere. Students can access the tools from home, and help get extra practice without needing to be at school. Some Web 2.0 tools also allow students to keep in contact with teachers from home as well, such as skype, and even wiki spaces allow students to do work or ask questions with teachers able to see the work and provide feedback. Students have many more ways to stay on top of their work by using web 2.0 tools as long as online they focus on their work. I definitely think web 2.0 technologies have advantages, but I think these advantages are the best for secondary schooling. Elementary school students need more one on one, and technology adds a barrier for these young, developing students. As I said i think elementary school students need more hands on activity, while technology is taking over all parts of the world, I think schools with students this young can prevent students from growing up too fast.

Many great web based resources exist nowadays and help teachers tremendously, giving access to many other sources from one click of a mouse. The web based resource I would love to take advantage of is http://teachertube.com/. Teacher tube provides all you could need in one web page. It gives you access to multitudes of items. Teacher tube keeps you in contact with other teachers around the world, gives new ideas for lessons, shows how to do the lessons, has videos safe to show students and can be easily accessed. Teacher Tube is a branch of youtube but is teacher approved, therefore there will not be any inappropriate videos or language that would have to be censored or could prevent a teacher from showing a clip. Teacher Tube also gives access to clips other teachers have seen as positive for students, and can even formulate group projects. Teacher Tube can bring classes together in order to make a video to share with other students around the world.

Teacher tube is a great web resource for the many reasons I mentioned. I think Teacher Tube would be useful for any grade level or subject. I aspire to teach elementary school so any videos with lessons or lesson plans will be of great aid. Teacher Tube can give me funny, or serious or purely educational videos that will help my students. I can look up math lessons, history lessons or any of the above. Teacher Tube doesnt just have videos it also has documents, photos, audio clips, blogs and much more. This website is like a one stop shop for teachers, offering support in more ways than one. This will be a great use to me when I teach, and to any other teacher no matter what level they teach.

As far as excel goes, I plan to use it for routine stuff. I love having set schedules so I will most likely create our daily time schedule on excel and post it all over the class. Being an elementary school teacher does not require a heavy usage of excel, but I know i will use it for grades and etc. I can also use excel when it comes to graphs and anything with mathematics. I can make charts for certain lessons and make the colors or graphs stand out to attract the students attention. Excel will make certain math lessons easier or will be extremely helpful in keeping track of all the students important information like phone numbers, birthdays, and addresses. Excel will help keep me organzied and ease up grading for me.

For my power point #2 I did a version of the jeopardy game. This was very simple in creation but time consuming. As far as the concept of writing, there is not much to critique because the slides consisted of simple questions followed by one or two word answers. The structure was very simple but repeated throughout to create unity, and the spelling and grammar usage was correct throughout the questions. The writing level was simple as the power point was made for elementary school students. As far as navigation each page had its own bubble making sure the player of the game navigated correctly to the next page whether it was to the answer:

or back to the game board:

Throughout these two slides, it is also apparent that I stayed constant with the font, font color, shape for links, and link writing and color. I used the same consistent pattern throughout the slides, uniting them together. One difference was that I typed the answers in a bigger font to take up more room, while the questions I typed smaller, because they normally were followed with a picture. The jeopardy game was well developed in my opinion and flowed throughout the game board making it logical and easy to follow.

Peripherals will be of imporatance and put to good usage in my class. Nowadays printers are almost a necessity and they will be put to good usage in my class, whether getting students to print out their stories they created or their test result, or information about their book or projects we area working on. Printers will be of utmost importance in working with a technologically influenced classroom. Scanners will be helpful to me as far as writing notes and being able to project them to the class or other work I did, or other students have done, the scanner will make it easier to show to the classroom. All of the peripherals will help ease the work of making multiple copies or having to write something multiple times, because it can be printed or shown in front of the class. Projectors have always been vital to the classroom and I would love to make use of that, but in todays times with the introduction of SMARTboards I think that it will become much easier to use other versions of technology. SMARTboards are the new wave of the future and will engage students in working on the boards while at the same time teaching the other students. The SMARTboards are the best example of how I plan to join the scanner, printer, and projector in one smartboard while being able to use that with the computer. SMARTboards will be used with computer based technologies. SMARTboards will be of great usage in elementary school keeping the students actively involved with hands on activities.

We continued working on power point in the last week. I have learned more about power point. I think the best tools I used surround hyperlinking. I was able to make games, such as jeopardy and i learned how to make a story with my own illustrations. For elementary school students, all of the things about power point we have been learning will be of usage because they will help entertain the kids and can become hands on. I made a jeopardy power point about animals which was easy, and was made for elementary students and would keep them engaged in a game, while learning and reviewing at the same times. I learned how to encorporate sounds and moving graphics. Overall everything I have learned about power points in the last week will help me to enhance my teaching, and help keep the students engaged throughout my powerpoints. Incorporating the animations, sounds, and hyper linking will help me create games, and more interesting power points. With education relying more on technology, learning how to keep my powerpoints up beat will help keep my students engaged.

As far as using presentation software in the classroom, the biggest advantage is soemthing to look it. Software presentation adds graphics, animations and uses different colors and fonts to attract attention. I think software presentation is the best aid in the classroom. Software presentation adds and benefits lectures. Lecturing is the typical way of teaching that many teachers use, but it can be incredibly boring, adding software presentations such as powerpoint peak some more interest and can add appeal and other exciting features. Disadvantages are when teachers rely solely on the powerpoint and say exactly what they put on the powerpoint or software presentation they used. Replacing lectures with software presentations will serve no purpose if what is being said is directly on the presentation besides helping students read what you are going to say. Software presentations should have some animations or different colors or fonts or images to keep students attention.

The knowledge dimension spans across Bloom's Taxonomy. To make a plan I would make use of each dimension; Remember- Make a flowchart on how languages were formulated from other existing languages. Understand- expand on where each language originated, how it was changed and examples, beginning with the first language and spawning to the last created. Apply-I would then create a flowchart on inspiration and add images to make it more appealing and make sure it remained in the logical order. Analyze- Get students to look up information about languages and see if they find anything controversial or problems with languages that have occured throughout the years Evaluate- address any controversy found surrounding language creation or any new information found by students and see if it can be incorporated into the flowchart Create- finalize the project, inspiration would be the best for the flowchart and have an illustration to help explain and show to students how languages came about, illustrating the fact that many things can come from one idea, which could then lead into an essay or paper about students creating something and having multiple other things come about as a result.

We have previously talked about copyrighting but to me that is of interest because so many websites can lead students or teachers to copyright. Educational technology has been of huge success and of advantage to the learning process, with tools and information avaliable that would have not been before. Educational techology allows people from all over the world to access information from other parts of the world within minutes. It gives firsthand accounts from other countries or perspectives that help enrich education. Educational technology does face problems when it comes to teaching. Teachers can use information from the web, but reproducing it without citing can cause teachers to have to pay fines or worse. Copyrighting has become a problem within schools with the advent of computers and the usage in schools. Students can use information from online web sources in their papers and obtain f's or worse repercussions from copyrighting. While using technology in education is enriching it also allows many problems that could occur. Students can benefit but can also be opened up to many harmful realities of using the internet.

As far as web 2.0 technologies go, I think they are useful in certain areas of schooling. I plan to teach elementary school and I do not see much use of blogs or wiki spaces for the younger children. In high school I see the most possibility for usage. High School students can compile on work projects together through wiki spaces, able to edit, message and see each others work offering comments on what to adjust through the wiki space itself. The wiki space would also be helpful to identify students who really deserve the grade, showing each persons contributions. Like I said, I do not plan on using web 2.0 technologies such as wiki space, because I just do not think it is very age appropriate for elementary school. The only thing I might take advantage of is the blogs, as far as blogging and communicating with other teachers and being able to share ideas.

Throughout school, when Wikipedia became popular all of my teachers cautioned against it. Our teachers basically made us use other sources besides Wikipedia, and clearly stated against using Wikipedia at all. Some teachers said we could look at Wikipedia for ideas, but never were we allowed to use it as a source. Basically I know that Wikipedia has some useful information but it also has its fair share of bogus information that could mislead students. As an elementary school teacher I do not plan on having to deal with any issues of Wikipedia because there will be no use of it that early. Overall I agree with my teachers, it is not a good learning source and I will stray my students away from it if necessary.

The past week we learned about the programs of wiki space. This would be more helpful for me if I taught the higher grades. I cannot say I plan on making use of this for my students, because I would prefer to leave the computer almost completely out of my lesson plan and focus on basics and hands on material for the kids at that young and impressionable age. They will deal with computers enough as they get older so I would prefer not to make use of any of the web 2.0 technologies. I will probably make use of blogging, if not with my students, using it as a tool to communicate with other teachers. The blogs will be beneficial to collaborate and work with other teachers. This class keeps opening my eyes as to all tricks of many of the things I have encountered with technology.

In school using the internet for research can be extremely helpful. Researching is made easier, and the internet allows access to many sources that are not readily available at libraries around schools. Articles, journals, websites, books and anything else that could help a research project are all available to help students or anyone trying to find information. I think the internet is a positive for researching. As I state it important I also think that every student should know how to look for, find, and cite books. I think every research project should have a mandatory policy of at least one or two sources as books. This will help students stay in touch with books as well as using the internet to expand the knowledge in the paper. The internet for research is useful especially in history and science or on any subject based paper, while in English research is not always as useful or necessary. A lot of English papers focus on the students creating a story and this does not require sources. In teaching elementary school, the book brings up a good point in the proper search engines. For the younger kids search engines such as Google and yahoo are not always the best, bringing up all results some of which are not appropriate for the younger children. The search engines created especially for students are what students need to use to help narrow their search to information pertinent to their topic.

Other ways web based resources can help learning is through multiple websites. Many web pages have educational tools i.e gaming programs that engage students while at the same time yield learning. A lot of websites are created to help teachers teach, with interactive lessons including video and sound as well as pictures. A lot of the interactive web pages also include multiple links with some to quizzes and tests that can help build up the students knowledge base. In elementary school these websites come in handy and help feed their growing imaginations. Another way to use web based resources is through online schooling. Florida Virtual School is a large part of Florida education and applies to those home schooled as well as students who cannot go to school because of health reasons or people just wanted to take more classes.

As far as concerns about teaching students in a technological environment I do not have many. I will be teaching elementary schools most likely first or second grade. In these grade levels- as of now- the exposure to computers is not overwhelming. Students are exposed to their teachers use of the computer especially through the recent 'smart boards.' In 1st and 2nd grade most of the focus is on hands on work. If/When they use a computer my only concern would be of their safety online. Hopefully it would only be set to go to the link they need such as for Accelerated Reader quizzes and etc. I would be concerned with having the internet exposed to my students because the web opens up a new world. My concerns are not high because of the assumed minimal amount of computer exposure they will have, but my concerns are all enclosed around the safety of my students and keeping them from pictures or web pages they do not need to see. I would limit the accessibility of the computer, and hopefully be able to monitor them when they are using the computer.

Chapter 7 focuses primarily on tools to use during the brainstorm process. In elementary school, students are first introduced to the topics of brainstorm charts and outlines. I would be able to utilize all of the graphic organizers in my classroom. I plan to teach elementary school and about 2nd grade is where students really get into working with writing stories- much in preparation for the fcat. Idea maps or the graphic organizers will be of utmost importance in showing the students the principals on how to write. The organizers help to keep the students writing focused in a logical manner and will help them understand the writing process with ease. All of these concepts will be used mainly in writing, but can also be used in history (i.e cause and effect maps), science or other areas of interest. I think the best way to work with the graphic organizers and get my students excited to use them will be by using 'inspiration.' I am referring to the program inspiration we recently learned to use. I think that will be the most conducive to learning for the students and will aid my teaching lesson.

As i mentioned before graphic organizers are of the utmost importance because it provides students with the basics of writing. Therefore, I would not only strongly encourage outlines and/or graphic organizers I would require them. In middle school and later years, I do not think that the emphasis needs to be on students turning in outlines, but instead that they know how to use them alone and show it through their papers. Elementary school is one of the most important times in a child's education. Elementary school is where students minds are still open and malleable. Teaching information that students can absorb and that will benefit them later in their school career is the best thing to do. Outlines and graphic organizers give solid background to constructing a paper. Graphic organizers teach how to make a paper 'flow' and help students to remember important parts to insert into papers. Elementary school is the time to lay foundation for further education and incorporating graphic organizers and outlines just aid the construction to a brighter future.

In the last week we have mainly focused on Google in class. All the new items, codes, and shortcuts I have learned will benefit me in the rest of my college career as well as throughout my teaching career. All of the Google information helps to narrow down information towards what I'm looking for and helps me identify what exactly I'm looking for, from more reliable sources. In teaching, I can use Google to find aids to lessons, pictures of certain sizes, websites, powerpoints already created about certain topics which will help me to gain insight or ideas for my own powerpoints. Google will give me access to hundreds of resources at the tips of my fingers. I have also learned more about graphic organizers and outlines, including ways to incorporate them into my class- even how to use them on the computer. This will benefit my career especially the technology aspect of graphic organizers because our school system includes more and more technology that keeps advancing. Being fluent with organizers on the computer and other ways to teach them will help keep my teaching level sufficient in the technology aspect. Everything we are learning in this class can benefit in more ways than one, and not just only for our future teaching careers.

My goal is to be an elementary school teacher, ideally in 1st or 2nd grade. There are many ways I can en corporate technology into my classroom to help teach. A way I have observed in the past and think would be awesome, would be to write stories on a word processor. My lesson plan would be focused on writing a story about whatever topic we decide on as a class. From there we would give descriptive words about the topic which I would type on the screen. The students would piece the words together and we would then write a story as a class. I would call on a few different students to give me a sentence about our main topic with one of the descriptor words and then i would type it up. We would do this for about a paragraph length of 2-3 sentences. After we wrote our paragraph and I addressed any questions, the students would then have to write their own paragraph based upon the one we did in class. The class one would be up there for the students to see and it was interactive to list the topics and words in a brainstorm and then go from there to write in a processor. I think that would be an awesome lesson and pictures and other things could be incorporated based upon time, or even the usage of Inspiration!

Since I am a bowler I decided to critique www.bowl.com which is a website encompassing all information possible about bowling and bowlers. Rule 1: the website balances the usage of words and pictures on the main page. They do have some extraneous ads that can distract from the main information. The page orients users and gives plenty of information through headers as to where you are. All text is justified to the left, so at least it is unanimous. The style is the same throughout the page, only differing in size. The color matches well with the background and the scheme flows. The sentences use upper and lower case properly, but the lines are not the shortest which can take away from some of the reading that will be done. The lines are evenly spaced which makes them look a lot better, and the structure is quite easy to follow with the bar at top giving simple directions to where you want to go. There is emphasis provided, and the audience is known and catered to because all of the people viewing this page are engaged in bowling in some way. Nothing flashes; they use lists and constant navigation, without stacked text. They have mainly pictures on the main page, but the screen is organized in a smart manner with size varying enough to get the point across.

Throughout school we have been exposed to the copyright rules in multiple classes. We have only one copy of some materials because of copyright laws or we had to go through forms to fill out in order to access certain objects. Most of the copyright laws came up in English, where we were also exposed to plagiarizing. We had to read many things in high school especially and had to write based upon the readings. We were allowed to quote or paraphrase only if we had proper documentation. As a teacher, I will go about using the proper guidelines to not infringe the copyright law and I will inform my students as much as I think they need to know. In elementary school the children are not as impacted by the laws as the teachers, and I will have to go about getting the movie, program, or information I need from other sources. I will need to get some information from other sources and with that I will be careful not to violate the authors rights and will obtain whatever I need to benefit my students the most. It may seem hard to get some materials but going by the rules will help me get what I want.

As far as Microsoft word goes, I have used it quite frequently throughout middle and high school for papers. My usage of Microsoft was not massive. I would write the paper, format it, change the font, color, size, and edit it. I knew how to work the basic features and that was basically all I knew. After I got into high school and had to write reviews and other one page type items I used Microsoft word for that, and became familiar with inserting items. I learned how to use clipart and word graphics and had a lot of fun doing that. Basically papers was my main use of Microsoft word. My teachers have made great use of Microsoft word by typing up notes, class rules, syllabuses, tests, quizzes, reviews and multitudes of other things. Overall my teachers love Microsoft word and using it for a long of stuff, and we the students always loved it when teachers used Microsoft word. Microsoft word was benefical to students and teachers, making formatting easy for students, being legible for teachers to read and was overall a great help for notes and tests.
Ideally, every student having a computer to work at or a library where each student can have access to a computer would be perfect. It would be easy for each student to try each part out and from there ask for assistance if need be. Chapter 9 discusses a lot of great ideas that would be great teaching tools as well as fun for the students such as creating a newspaper with each student doing their own paper or contributing to a class newspaper, using it for multiple subjects, writing & editing or even math. I love the newspaper idea and think that especially in elementary school each student writing their own column would be fun for them and enjoyable for me to read, while at the same time they are learning. I really look forward to trying that out one time, and having them be able to incorporate graphics and etc would be it even better!
Almost everything I have learned in this class has been new to me. I have been able to learn many things I never knew about things I always use! My favorite so far has been paint and all the little tricks to it that I never knew. In my teaching career students in elementary school love doing art, so teaching them and letting them make paint on the computer would be a new way to paint. All of the stuff we learned about Microsoft word was awesome as well and opened my eyes to all the tools I have never used, nor knew what they meant. Everything we have learned so far has increased my knowledge base, and continuing this can only better my knowledge, which in turn will help me relay my knowledge to my students in the best way. I hope to be able to remember this tricks and tools so I can share these with my students as the progress through learning the computer, and hope they will be as mind boggled as I was and continue to be. All the hidden tools that we never knew about, prove to be the coolest!

As it is continually reminded today, America and the world in general is moving ahead at a fast speed. Things change daily, new things are created and more information than ever is becoming available at the tips of our fingertips. The computer is our number 1 tool to access information from all over the world, without having to leave our homes. I think the importance the computer has become is also making its importance in the classroom apparent. Whether to create a power point to explain a lecture, show a video to the class or even to share ideas among teachers or students the computer has become a powerful source. Teachers lives are said to be easier because assignments can be submitted and graded online, power points and word documents can be sent out, and teachers can communicate much faster in email during school hours than spending time on the phone. Overall computers are becoming integrated in schools more and more as a key component.
In my classroom I plan to use the computer for quite a few things. I plan to teach elementary school and power points or word documents with plenty of graphics will help engage my students. I want to do reading quizzes online such as i have seen in other classes, like on AR tests. I want to teach my students basics, but at the same time not too much because the children I will teach will still be young and I want them to focus on being a kid before they start wasting all their time on the computer. I will use the internet at times to look for advice from other teachers, using this advice and maybe learning and enacting new skills into my teaching style. I will of course use my computer to email, look up information and make use of websites. All of these will be important as a teacher. The grade book online will also become of importance as well. In this class, I just hope to gain more knowledge and hopefully more tricks on the best ways I can do things for my class. All the stuff we have learned so far has been interesting and I want to keep learning more!
I wanted to take this time to say that this class is pretty cool. It is fast paced but time goes by rather quick. I especially love to hear the oohs and aahs when we all learn something new we haven't seen before. I loved working with paint and using all my new techniques. After we learned about the cutepdf i actually copied a document from online and made it to where i could print it out, I felt accomplished. I love how much I have learned, I just hope I can retain a lot of this information, if not I can always take notes!

Most of my experiences with technology have not been formal, and have mutated to what I have learned from others over the years. I took formal class in 6th grade teaching microsoft powerpoint, word, and excel so I know how to do that but it has been a while. In 7th grade I was in a computer class which consisted of teaching us how to type, so I am familiar with the basics of computer knowledge. I know how to work the internet rather well after being exposed to it for so long, I know how to look up sources and also do leisurely activities. I know how to set up and change items on facebook and myspace and I'm also familiar with other web browsers and use google frequently. I have had classes on proper uses for technology although after all this time I may be a little rusty. I know how to use the computer for what I need, but I know there is so much more out there to learn about.
I hope to learn about different ways to use the internet, and do different things than I already have been exposed to. I want to be able to expand from using the micrsoft office items and learn more about the internet itself, as in how to manuever it and being able to get the most out of it. Whether by designing webpages or learning how to make things on the internet, I hope to obtain skills that will help me not just in the teaching field but obtain life skills as well.
Learning Styles:
Based upon today, I have learned about my learning style and what environments are more suitable for me to learn and benefit from. I have a strong active learning style which means I benefit from more hands on work, and like group work, while lectures and thinking quietly are not things I am apt to do. I'm fairly balanced between sensing and intuitive learners, with a small lean towards the sensing side. I am more comfortable learning facts as opposed to being intuitive, but as the results show I am balanced and not too far one way to say that I am not balanced with both sides. I am a strongly visual learner, benefitting most from pictures, graphs, and demonstrations, while lectures and verbal learning with words and spoken explanations do not help my learning. This is very acurate because I like to learn hands on as said before and I like to actively do things and see things so that I know and understand better. Lastly, I am more of a sequential learner than a global learner- I like to see the connections and understand things in a logical order as opposed to seeing the big picture and figuring out the individual parts. I like to see how everything works and why it works in a certain order.
